CHANGE IS NOT EASY

Change the world. We’ve all heard it said. Maybe we aspire to it. In reality, we all change the world no matter what we do. There’s no trick to it. Our mere presence makes everything different than it would have been if we were not here. (Think George Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life.) If you seek to change the world, mission accomplished. And that matters not at all.

What is vital is improving the world. That challenge is harder – and more important. Some will bend the arc of history. But most of us won’t. Still, the good we do will live on, providing a certainly earthly immortality.

Why not do more, then, to improve the world? Fear is a barrier. What if I fail? What if my ideas aren’t good? What if I am embarrassed? Failure is the close neighbor of success. Consider stepping up to lead some effort at BPNN. Contact me (rjkasieta@kasieta.com) if you have an idea you would like to discuss that you might lead. It doesn’t have to be monumental. Small changes that help people are important, too. We have resources, space for new programs, and scores of volunteers ready to help. Our board of directors will consider any reasonable proposal. Don’t say you were never asked.

Teddy Roosevelt spoke of “the man in the arena,” “whose face is marred by blood and sweat and tears. Who, if he succeeds, knows the thrill of high achievement. And if he fails, at least does so while daring greatly, so that his place will never be with those cold and timid souls that know neither victory nor defeat.”

Let us go forward and change the world together – for the better. Thanks for all you do. It matters.
